An appeal is underway to help find a stem cell match for nine-year-old Liverpool fan Elliot Wild.


The young Kopite from the Wirral, who was on the books of Everton's football development programme and would wear his Reds jersey to training, has been diagnosed with leukaemia and requires a stem cell match to help save his life.

A matching donor is needed for the transplant, though just 30 per cent of people will find a match within their family and one has yet to be found for Elliot.

There are also no matches on the register of the Anthony Nolan charity, who are now hosting a donor recruitment event in the hope they can find the match that could save Elliot's life.

It will be held at the Higher Bebington Junior School, Mill Road in Wirral on Saturday, October 23 between 10am and 2pm.

Joining the register couldn't be easier. Anyone aged 18-40, weighs more than eight stone and in good health can sign up by giving a saliva sample and completing a medical questionnaire. If you're a match, you could save someone's life.

Elliot's mum Jackie said: "We've had an absolutely horrific time. Someone out there could help Elliot and give all of us that bit of hope. Please come along to find out whether you could be his lifesaver."

Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones is backing Anthony Nolan's appeal after the charity helped locate three matching cord blood units for his son Luca, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia earlier this year and required a bone marrow transplant.

"You don't think about these things until it happens to your family, but now I can't think of anything more important," said Brad.

"It's so easy to join the Anthony Nolan register, and every person that does so could be a match for someone who desperately needs a transplant but who hasn't yet found their match. You could give them that hope of life.

"Please sign up, or if you aren't eligible to join yourself, give some money to help Anthony Nolan recruit more donors and save more lives."
