Liverpool in battle with Juventus for Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is set to rekindle his interest in Mario Gomez, making a move for the Bayern Munich striker in January.

Hodgson was denied the 25-year-old after the Bundesliga champions blocked a deadline-day loan switch to Anfield.

The Liverpool boss has made no secret of the fact he wishes to boost his strike force to help ease the goalscoring burden on Fernando Torres.

But the Reds will have to battle Italian giants Juventus for the the Germany international who has failed to hold down a regular first-team place at the Allianz Arena after joining from Stuttgart last summer.

Italian daily Tuttosport claims that Juve will make a move for Gomez, having failed to capture a striker over the summer, with the likes of Karim Benzema having been linked with a move to Turin.

Gomez moved to Bayern Munich a year ago having scored 24 times for Stuttgart during their 2008-09 campaign but is yet to rediscover that form since his arrival in Munich.

He scored ten times for Louis van Gaal’s side last season, but is thought to be behind Thomas Muller, Ivica Olic and Miroslav Klose in the pecking order for the Bavarian giants.

Gomez was however selected for the Germany World Cup squad and scored in a recent friendly against Denmark.

C'est déjà plus probable que Benzema vu que Gomez avait déclaré avoir été à deux doigts de signer à Liverpool en Aout dernier.

Entre benzema et gomez , je préfère benzema car il a un meilleur potentiel mais soyons clair , il ne voudra jamais aller à liverpool surtout qu' il est dans le club de ses rêves.

Avec sa 16eme place au classement et six points au compteur, Liverpool a entamé un début de saison catastrophique. Roy Hodgson espère un retour à la normale d’ici peu et pense déjà au mercato hivernal pour étoffer son escouade.

Parmi les cibles prioritaires du coach des Reds, on retrouve Wayne Routledge, milieu de terrain de Newcastle. L’ancien joueur de Crystal Palace ou de Tottenham a d’ailleurs pas mal aidé les Magpies pour la remontée en Premier League l’an passé.

Toutefois, rien n’est fait. Roy Hodgson doit désormais convaincre le comité directeur liverpuldien de lâcher les ronds. Ce qui est loin d’être gagné pour un club qui fait des économies, dont l’entraîneur a mal démarré la saison et pour une recrue potentielle qui n’a encore rien prouvé en Premier League.

Liverpool are on the tail of French under-21 starlet Dimitri Payet as Roy Hodgson casts his eye around for potential January signings, according to reports.

Payet is said to be on the verge of breaking into the full French squad, with new manager Laurent Blanc having been impressed by the St Etienne man's recent form.

But Blanc - who is keen to ring the changes after taking over from the unpopular Raymond Domenech - is not the only boss to have had Payet watched as CaughtOffside.com report Reds scouts have been attending several matches in Ligue 1 recently.

Payet has proved himself a prolific winger in France, with seven goals in as many games so far this season - alerting several clubs to his talents.

Although Liverpool will hope interest remains just that, with Hodgson keen to wrap up the signing for a relatively paltry fee in the region of £7million.

French media claim Payet has expressed an interest in moving to England in the past, with some sources suggesting the Merseysiders would be his first choice above fellow suitors Aston Villa.
