Reds still have worry over Daniel Agger's concussion

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that defender Daniel Agger has no recollection of Sunday's game against Arsenal.

Agger suffered concussion after a knock in the second half of the 1-1 draw at Anfield. He will not be in the squad to face Trabzonspor in the Europa League on Thursday and could be a doubt to face Manchester City in the Premier League on Monday.

Hodgson said: "Daniel is not doing that well. It is three days after the incident and he is still suffering from the concussion. He has no memory of the game. It was quite a serious concussion he received and we can only hope it will settle down in time for Monday's match against Manchester City. There was never any question he would be fit for tomorrow. He is not able to do very much at the moment because he is still suffering from headaches.

"Even something as simple as reading a newspaper or watching TV can give him a headache so it is just a question of him taking things easy.''

Midfielder Javier Mascherano will also miss the clash against the Turks with a calf injury but could be back in contention for Monday's trip to Eastlands.

"He will always be in my plans until the day comes when he leaves the club,'' Hodgson said. "For me that will be a long time in the future. If I could get my wish, he would always play.''

Hodgson is hoping that Holland winger Ryan Babel, who has been linked with a £9 million switch to Wolfsburg, will stay.

"I'm afraid we are in the realms of speculation,'' Hodgson said. "You know how many stories you are getting every day, and many of them are completely unfounded, many of them are just really attempts to put their players in the spotlight. We've had no written or formal offers for Ryan Babel and he is a player I am expecting to play for us.''

Daniel Agger today welcomed the imminent arrival of a new left-back - and insisted he would battle to hold onto his place in Roy Hodgson's team.

The Danish international has been operating on the left side of the Reds' defence in the early weeks of the season as the manager continues to look to strengthen that area of his squad.

With Hodgson admitting he is hopeful a deal to sign Paul Konchesky can be completed before the transfer window slams shut, Agger knows he could soon have a fight on his hands to remain in the starting eleven - especially given the excellent early season form of Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel in the heart of the defence.

"I've done the job but it's not really my place in the team," said Agger. "The boss knows it and I know it. But as long as the boss wants me to play there, I will do it.

"I won't complain. I will do the job for the team. If he thinks that I am the best man for that role, I will keep doing it.

"It will be good if and when he (Konchesky) comes in. He is a specialised left-back and I'm not. It all means that it is good for the team.

"We need the competition. It has always been there and it always will be. It will be good for going forward."

The Reds got their first win of the league season on the board on Sunday thanks to Fernando Torres' volleyed Kop end winner against West Brom.

"It was important to get the win and it was a great goal from Fernando," added Agger. "He will only get better and better from now.

"It was a hard day but a good day. We knew it would be tough as West Brom are a good team; luckily we got the three points."

Toujours selon Rawk, Benitez voudrait avoir Agger dans son équipe soit dès cet hiver soit cet été.
