Carra: Season can be a success

Jamie Carragher today insisted success in the Europa League will ensure this season is remembered for the right reasons in years to come.

Liverpool must overcome a one goal deficit against Atletico Madrid on Thursday night to secure their place in the final, and Carragher is adamant glory in Hamburg next month will ensure people forget about the difficulties of this year's Barclays Premier League campaign.

"People look back at 2005 and all they remember now is it was a great year because we won the Champions League," said Carragher.

"They've forgotten we didn't do so well in the league that season and didn't finish in the top four.

"We received a lot of criticism in the course of that season but history always judges you on the trophies you've won.

"These days you can qualify for the Champions League and not win a trophy and people will say you've had a good season. Yet people are asking us if we can consider this a good season if we win the Europa League.

"As far as I'm concerned any season in which you win a trophy is a good one.

"There are only so many competitions any club can win so if you win any medal you've done well.

"The two best Liverpool teams I ever played in were the one in 2002 and the side last season. We went close in the league but won no trophies.

"The 2002 side was probably even stronger than the team which won the Treble in 2001, but given the choice I'd always rather win a competition.

"I won't be looking back at the end of my career and thinking fondly of the time we got 86 points in the league. I'll be remembering the finals we went to and won.

"That's why I'm desperate to make sure we reach another one this time.

"Whatever anyone says it's a major European trophy that's at stake.

"Liverpool made their name in Europe and it will maintain our reputation and our pedigree to create history and win the competition again."

Puisque tu es si brillant, tu pourrais peut-être remplacer Domenech à la rentrée. Sérieux.

Personne n'a vu un bon match! Même les Espagnols ont été décevants! C'est juste que les équipes jouent sur leur standard de la saison. Liverpool à l'exterieur ne vaut pas mieux, et attaquer à tout va sans tenir compte de ce fait établi c'est aller au casse-pipe, et tuer le match retour avant même qu'il ait lieu.
